4. Do I get paid as an intern?

By law, internships in South Africa are not entitled to be remunerated. As an intern in South Africa you will get a visa that only allows you to carry out any unpaid internship. It is therefore important to calculate the costs for your entire stay abroad well in advance.

5. Application deadlines and duration of placement procedure

For most internships there are no application deadlines, but you should apply about 3-6 months in advance to allow enough time for the organisation and planning process. It usually takes between 2-6 weeks to find a suitable internship position. In addition, you should schedule about 3-6 weeks for the organisation of accommodation, car rental, visa application, etc. Depending on the availability of suitable internships and accommodation, short-term applications and placements are also possible.

6. Period of internships

The minimum length of an internship in Cape Town is on average 3-6 months. Some companies require a longer period, others are more flexible. The chances of an internship of your choice depend greatly on your skills, but may also increase by the duration of your stay, as companies usually prefer candidates for a longer period of time.
